COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
We are seeking an honest and eloquent Communications Assistant to convey our rich ideas and excitement for Sister to diverse audiences and cultivate healthy relationships with our beloved clients and colleagues, press, prospective customers, and communities as we grow.
You are responsible for the development of written and visual content for social media and creating the monthly newsletter. The general company mailbox will become your purview as you filter and field inquiries before they reach the Director’s desk. You will work with the Director to create strategies for growing our audience, and deepening our connections with those who know and love us. You will also manage all social media accounts, maintain the online store, and help put out PR fires as they flare.
A warm, confident, and enthusiastic personality is a must. Strong writing ability, impeccable grammar, a rich knowledge of feminism, good photos skills, and facility with the Adobe Creative Suite are essential. You are a self-starter who knows how to prioritize and manage your time. You are fascinated with feminism and entrepreneurship, with a knack for community building. You are excited to be a part of our vision and eager to contribute your way-with-words, strong visual skills, your ability to connect with others, and your creative mind to helping Sister flourish.
This position is 4-6 hours per week, contract. Pay $20-$35/hr, DOE.
Applicants must live in the Los Angeles area and be available for weekly meetings in Topanga Canyon.
YOU ARE
A TOP-NOTCH COMMUNICATOR
Your writing is friendly and engaging. Your spelling and grammar are flawless. You know how to convey a message visually. You speak clearly. You possess the ability to connect with a wide range of personalities with ease and aplomb and are comfortable in email, online, written, phone, social media, and in-person interactions. You can diffuse charged conversations and maneuver public relations situations with grace and ease. You cultivate relationships with honesty, integrity, and healthy boundaries. AESTHETICALLY-SENSITIVE
The medium is also the message. Visual communication is an essential part of your job. You should have basic graphic design skills. You will be working with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator templates and must have the ability to add content and maintain a balanced design. You should also be able to compose and shoot crisp, clear, colorful photos according to our established design conventions.
FEMINIST
You have a strong understanding of feminist movements, theory, scholarship, and art. You are engaged with intersectional feminism. You have read gender theory/queer theory, and possess an interest in the feminine. You appreciate the renaissance of witchcraft and spirituality in fourth wave feminism. Please do not apply for this position unless you are familiar with the second and third wave feminist canons. Preference will be given to applicants with degrees in women’s studies, gender studies, and critical theory.
ENTREPRENEURIAL
You enjoy generating business ideas and making money. You have an interest in business, economics, the contradictions of capitalism, and financial self-sufficiency.

• A Bachelor of Arts degree or higher, including feminist/women’s/gender studies.
• Professional communications experience, including newsletter development and Instagram account management for a business or company.
• You own Apple laptop, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator), digital camera (could be a high-quality phone camera), and functional smart phone.
• Ability to work during normal business hours. (M-F, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT)
• A reliable car and can meet in Topanga Canyon weekly. (Please note: travel time and expenses are not compensated.)

TEACHING ASSISTANT
We are seeking a kind and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide support for Feminist Business School. You will manage the online classrooms, engage in day-to-day interactions with students, mediate and moderate class discussions on topics of feminist entrepreneurship, and act as administrative liaison. You will also assist the Director in the development and delivery of curricula and course materials and provide general administrative support such as scanning, file formatting, and maintaining student databases.
You possess a rich knowledge of feminism, including feminist history, movements, theory, scholarship, and art, as well as an understanding of race studies, capitalism, and Marxist theory (bonus points for business studies and/or healing arts). You are able to communicate your insights, knowledge, and ideas to others in a way that is clear, engaging, and easy-to-grasp. You are skilled at classroom diplomacy—you can diffuse charged conversations and have experience maneuvering complicated ideological discussions. You are curious, a life-long learner and who enjoys exploring new ideas without ego or the need to be right. You know how to foster growth and transformation in your students with compassion and creativity.
A commitment to your own critical consciousness (working through internal/ized sexism, racism, classism, and so on) is essential. As are kindness and a sense of humor. You are organized, managerial, and grounded. You are devoted to feminism and energized by the idea of feminist entrepreneurship. You are excited to be a part of our vision and eager to contribute your excellent people skills, intellectual acumen, and teaching talents to helping Sister flourish.
This position is 3-8 hours per week (workload fluctuates with the FBS course calendar, more work anticipated in 2018). Pay is $25-$35/hr contract, DOE. Applicants may work remotely, within the continental United States. Preference is given to applicants in the Los Angeles area who are able to meet regularly in Topanga Canyon.
YOU ARE
A TEACHER
You have a strong interdisciplinary knowledge of topics at hand (feminism, economics, race, class, gender, business). You have college-level teaching experience which includes writing a syllabus, developing curricula, speaking/lecturing/writing on a topic, guiding students in the development of critical consciousness, and providing constructive feedback. You are personable, friendly and kind with your students and colleagues. You are sensitive to classroom dynamics that unconsciously replicate institutionalized power imbalances and are engaged in undoing racism, sexism, classism in the learning environment. You are interested in pedagogy and understand the value of allowing students to come to their own conclusions. You grasp new ideas quickly. You are comfortable conveying and representing the tenets of the Feminine Economy and feminist entrepreneurship (after training, of course) and you are excited about our radical ideas of embodying feminine and feminist principles in business practices.
AN ASSISTANT
You are a team-player and eager collaborator. You enjoy working in service of a higher mission (in this case, social transformation through feminist entrepreneurship). You shape a community culture that is inclusive, responsive, responsible, fun, and supportive.
