HOW IS SLIDING SCALE TUITION CALCULATED?

To develop our sliding scale, we cross-referenced the Federal Poverty Guidelines with the median income in California (where we live) and discovered that the average person in the Golden State makes 500% of the Federal Poverty Level. This is also the income qualification level for subsidized health care in our state. So, we used it as the qualifier for tuition support. If you make an above-average income, you are asked to pay full price. If you make less, we offer you subsidized tuition.

To calculate the sliding scale tuition costs, we developed a progressive model, meaning, as your income bracket decreases, so does the percentage of one year’s income you are asked to pay. Individuals making $60k/year with no dependents or significant assets pay the highest percentage with their tuition calculated at 5% ($3000). However, if you make $50k and have one child and no significant assets, your tuition is calculated at 1.8% ($900). We then add a $50 registration fee to the calculated price cover our fixed costs.

We are not statisticians but we have done our best to develop a working model that acknowledges the reality of income disparity, while still treating this course as a business investment. We assume our model will be improved on over time as we develop experience working with it.

I DON’T QUALIFY FOR SLIDING SCALE. DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

Yes! If you enroll through our website, you are given the option to pay in-full or pay in 3, 6, or 12-month increments. If you choose an installment plan, you will pay an additional $50 with your first month’s tuition. For example, if you choose the 12-month option, you will pay $350 to register. We then charge a card on-file or draw from your bank account every 30 days for $300 for 11 subsequent months.

I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS.

Please email us and we will be happy to arrange a short phone call.
